Oleg Taktarov Seminar Jan. 9th 2016

I am so excited to let everyone know Oleg Taktarov will be coming to Camarillo JiuJitsu in January. Oleg has been a friend of mine since UFC 6. He is a legit black belt in Judo and a Sambo champion. He was there when the UFC had only 3 rules and used their fists instead of gloves. He is one of the toughest guys I know. We used to train together and to this day his leg lock knowledge is unmatched!
Not only did he win the UFC 6, he has been an international movie start since.
I will be updating this post with some cool stories from the past! Turn your notifications on, the stories are awesome!
I can’t wait..

Camarillo JiuJitsu – S-Mount Double Attack

This is a double attack from S-Mount I came up with a while back.  If you are having trouble breaking open someones defense for the armbar from S-Mount, this might help.  I hope you like the video, and please feel free to email me any suggestions you may have.

Thank you,

Daniel Camarillo

I started Judo when I was around 5 years old.  My first competition I remember very well.  I was 6 years old.  I was scared and didn’t really want to compete.

My father would leave the house from time to time late at night and I never knew where he was headed.  One day I decided to ask where he was going at night.  He said Judo practice and asked me if I wanted to go.  I was really into Bruce Lee and would run around the house kicking and punching everything.  My brother David was only 1 at the time, so I wasn’t hitting him yet.  I asked my father if it was anything like Karate or what Bruce Lee does.  No was my fathers answer, so was mine.  I didn’t go to Judo until a few weeks later.  But once I went, my father never let me quit.

I started training at Bakersfield Judo Club.  I remember it like it was yesterday.  Canvas mat cover which gave you awesome mat burns!  I remember always being in trouble and having to do duck walks around the mat area.  Yes, I was a kid. :)  My early Judo career wasn’t what a lot of people think.  I lost a lot of matches.  I don’t think I did very well until Jr High.  Then doing much much better in High School.

My frist competition I lost both of my matches.  I was scared to fight and when I lost I fought so hard not to cry.  I got thrown both matches since it was double elimination.  I didn’t want to do anymore Judo but at the same time I wanted to be with my father.  So I kept going.  Once David was old enough to join us at practice my father started pushing us.

David and I have been through so many matches.  I would say its easily around 2500 matches maybe more.  We would literally travel almost every single weekend to compete for 10 years straight.  We would train everyday during the summer.  My father built a building in our back yard so we had no excuses not to train. He invited the best to our house from Japan.  When I look back now, I wish I would have done more!  I will never ever regret my father pushing me!

I quit Judo before I was even in my prime.  I do regret that.  I hit my prime 3 years after I quit.  I quit to pursue JiuJitsu.  Judo helped me blow my name up in JiuJitsu.  Without my Judo, I wouldn’t be who I am today.

Classes We Offer

All classes will help the student learn: Respect, Confidence, Coordination, Self Discipline, Patience, and Teamwork.

Kids JiuJitsu Fundamentals: Ages 5-13 Monday and Wednesday 5pm – 6pm

This is a great place for your child to start! In this class, we will be focusing on the basics necessary to jumpstart your child in JiuJitsu.   It’s very important that your child learns the basic techniques of JiuJitsu to avoid bad habits. Learning the fundamentals correctly at an early age will also help him/her in future JiuJitsu classes as they grow with our JiuJitsu family.

Piranha Kids JiuJitsu: Ages 5-13 Monday through Friday 6pm – 7pm

The kids are the future of this sport. We make sure they learn what works and learn it correctly. In this class, we focus on competition JiuJitsu. Our kids have more World and Pan Am champions than most schools in the US. Whether you are taking JiuJitsu for fun or to be a top competitor, this is the class for your child.

Adult JiuJitsu: Ages 14 & up Monday through Friday 7pm – 8:30pm

In the adult class, we train hard no matter the age. We begin with warm-ups that utilize your entire body followed by intense JiuJitsu training. Worried about not having enough stamina or strength? This is where you can get in shape and stay in shape all at the same time while learning proper JiuJitsu.

Women’s JiuJitsu Class: Ages 8 & up Saturday 10:30am – 11:30am

We have a good group of women and when they requested for one day of their own training, we added the women’s class. More time to drill means more time to hone their skills. This class is perfect for those who would feel more comfortable training with other women and not co-ed or just as a starter before joining the regular adult class. JiuJitsu is great self-defense and I believe all women should learn it and learn it the right way.

Open Mat JiuJitsu: All ages – Saturday 11:30am-1pm

Camarillo JiuJitsu has one of the most successful open mats any academy has right now. What is Open Mat? It is an opportunity for all JiuJitsu practitioners to train with one another no matter their affiliation. Egos are left at the door and we train and learn cohesively. We have visitors from all over California jumping on our mats to train. We do not care what academy you represent, male or female, Gi or no Gi, you are all welcome to come train during this class. With around 60 people on the mat training and helping each other, how can you pass up this opportunity? See you there!

Zombie Class: Ages 18 & up Tuesday and Thursday 6am – 7am

Calling all early birds! JiuJitsu training this early in the morning is the definition of discipline! Expect the same top not training as the evening classes just much earlier. There will be no falling asleep in this class! Show up a month without missing a class and earn a rare coveted Camarillo Zombie Patch.
