Why Camarillo Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
This is supposed to be a mission statement right? Well, let me start with a short story. This should give you a little insight on how I feel a real academy should feel like when you walk into that door. Like home!
Not too long ago I went to the Martial Arts Expo in Las Vegas. The event had several guest speakers who talked about how to make your academy more successful and mostly how to make more money. I will admit, I only sat in one of these, which happen to be one of the largest ones.
The speaker, whom I wont name, started off by bragging how much money he has made and how many hours he now works. He has millions and works only 2 hours a day. Awesome right? Why cant that be me? Well, I dont want to be like that at all. Are you serious Dan? How could you not want millions and be able to do whatever you want whenever you want.
Well, let me explain. I grew up in Martial arts. I started Judo at a very young age of 4. My whole life I have been surrounded by people who take pride in their art and passing it on to me. Trying to make me the best I can be. Helping me when I needed it and pushing me when I needed. The older I got the more I was thankful for all the things these people did for me. My father for starting me, my brother for being my partner and my mom for putting up with all of this.
When I hear another Martial Artist brag about how much money his academies have made him, or how little he has to work, it makes me think about several things that I dont want any part of. Working only 2 hours a day only means one thing. He is never at his academies.. He is no longer doing the things he loves, or used to love. I dont even know if he really loved his Martial Arts. Another thing, being money hungry, you have to think about his students now.. Who is teaching them? Does this person not care what they are learning or if they are even learning correctly. What about the parents who pay all that money to try and help their kids learn proper technique, or trying to be as good as they can be. Im also sure its giving them a false sense of security as well.
I take pride in my technique that I have learned. I take pride in my technique that I will be passing on day by day. I take pride in watching my students progress and performing in class as well as at tournaments. I also love my sport so much, I wouldnt want to be away from my second home. Yes, my academy means that much to me that I call it home. Anyone who walks into my doors will be treated like family. They will instantly feel comfortable training with anyone else there and have the confidence of knowing they will be taught with proper technique. Im not here to make millions, that is for sure. I am here to teach those willing to learn.
I guess what I am trying to say is, be careful who you are learning from. If they dont love what they are teaching you, you are the one who end up short handed. You wont find that in my Academy. I love Judo and JiuJitsu. I love what it has done for me. I love all the amazing people I have met through these awesome sports.
